THE LORD'S PRAYER 2
Text: Matthew 6:9–13
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
It has already been established that God initiated communication (prayer) with humanity so that He can bring about His will on earth.
Continuing with the Lord's Prayer, we have observed both the relational aspect of the prayer and its reference part.
The Lord's Prayer Is a Manner of Prayer
One thing we should note is that the Lord's Prayer is about the manner in which the Lord expects us to pray, not the steps, or rules or laws governing prayer.
It is the manner, and that means what our prayer should look like, the colouration of prayer, or we can call it the basics of prayer.
The state of the heart while praying and the foundation on which our communication with God should stand.
So, after referencing what Jesus spoke about the mindset of God about prayer, and that is His will and His kingdom.
There's nothing more in the mind of God that He created man for if not for His will, and to communicate that same will to man so that it can be established.
And so our heart must be calibrated every time we pray; it must be solidified in our subconsciousness that it's about God's will and God's kingdom.
PRAYER AND THE WILL OF GOD
Each time we pray, it should be our desire that His kingdom is established here on earth, and that His will for every moment is done.
"Lord, what is Your will for this moment? Please bring me into it. Let Your kingdom come right here."
Our heart cry should be along this path.
Notice that even the request for daily bread was a function of His will; it's like a supply of His will.
In fact, the forgiveness, protection from temptations and deliverance from evil are all functions of His will.
While we pray and request these things, it should be a reflection in our hearts about His will, in clear terms, that we need daily bread for His will and His kingdom, forgiveness of our sins to be fit for His will and His kingdom, protection from temptations to focus on His will and His Kingdom, and deliverance from evil to keep us in His will.
Everything surrounds His will.
And if you observe every prayer Jesus prayed while He was in the flesh, it was according to this manner. It was strictly about God's will and His kingdom.
Even when He wanted to feed thousands, His words were just about His will and kingdom. The prayer at Lazarus' grave, it was about God's will. Even at the garden of Gethsemane.
Everything in Prayer Points to God's Will
Beloved, as we bring this prayer series to a close, the greatest desire is that our prayer life will change, and we will begin to enjoy God's presence even as we communicate with Him.
Let this be in our mind: prayer is God's way of communicating His will to us.
PRAYER
Father, please help me to maximise this opportunity of communication with You in Jesus' Name.
