KEY TO ANSWERED PRAYER

Text: 1 John 5:14–15

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he heareth us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

At the course of this series, we established earlier on that prayer is about communion with God and His will. The reason God initiated communication with man in the beginning was to pass on His will, plan, and agenda to the earth through man.

So, it starts with Him and ends with Him.

Praying According to God's Will

God is not going to do anything that is not His will. Everything He does is mainly and all about His will, and we must know that we are just a vessel to fulfil this will.

So imagine if we then approach Him and ask Him to do something contrary to His will; how can He do that? How can He approve a thing that would not establish His will here on earth?

The main key to answered prayer is praying God's will.

The Scriptures above clearly establish this. When we ask anything in His will, we have confidence that God hears us.

Remember that prayer itself is a communication with God. However, in that communication, there are times when we present a petition to Him, expecting Him to do it.

The Bible then says we will receive the answers to our petition if we ask according to His will because it is certain that He hears us.

How Do We Pray According to God's Will?

So, if I have to ask in God's will, that means my request must be fueled by God's will.

I must be able to know what God wants and how I fit into that, and that should be the quest of my heart when I pray.

Your project, marriage, career, ministry, academics, and all must find their foundation in God's will. Let it be that it is God who desires this for you, so that your heart desires, troubles, and difficulties would find purpose in God's will.

By that, the only petition you will bring before God will be according to His will for you.

Can you reflect now and sit down to examine if you are indeed in God's will?

Perhaps you've not been praying God's will, and that explains why it seems God isn't hearing.

Can you change your request and ask God what He would want you to do?

God still answers prayers, but only according to His will.

Prayer

Father, please open my eyes, plant me in Your will so that my heart's desires will forever be according to Your will, in Jesus' Name.
