A Living Hope: Waiting Patiently on God

Text: Romans 8:23–25 (KJV)

23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Meta Description: Discover what it means to have a living hope and learn from Romans 8:23–25 why genuine hope waits patiently for God's promises.

A Living Hope

The fuel to faith and life is hope, I always say. Once a man loses hope, he has lost the licence to live. It is very important to man that hope must be sustained because its death can crush the essence of life itself.

What keeps hope alive is faith, and what keeps faith alive is hope. Once one of them is affected, life suffers.

Hope must be kept alive. A living hope waits—not just waiting, but waiting patiently.

A Living Hope Waits Patiently

A man waiting on God for the fruit of the womb held on to the promise God had spoken to him about 25 years ago: that his Samuel had come. Every year, he reminded God about those words while waiting.

But no Samuel showed up.

Yet, he kept believing. He kept hoping. He kept waiting.

After 25 years, he finally held his son and said boldly, "God said my Samuel was coming, and now my Samuel has finally come."

This is a true-life story.

He kept his hope alive while waiting on God for 25 years. He didn't just wait; he waited patiently.

That is what a living hope does.

What Does It Mean to Hope?

The Scripture above explains the mystery of hope.

No one hopes for what he has already seen. We hope for what we have not seen, but we do so with the assurance that what we are hoping for will eventually be seen.

And the Scripture says that if what we hope for is not yet seen, then we need to wait patiently for it.

A living hope waits patiently.

The characteristic of a living hope is that it waits patiently. It carries an assurance that what we are waiting for will come. When it will come, you might not know, but you are sure that it will come.

Then comes a resolution in your heart:

"No matter how long I have to wait, I will wait."

Keep Your Hope Alive While Waiting on God

Beloved, God is not a man; He will come, and He will not delay. If He has not come yet, it is because it is not yet His time.

However, God does not waste anyone's time. His words are Yea and Amen.

He will show up, and He will show up big time.

Keep your hope alive while waiting patiently. Let your mind be at rest. Be resolute in your heart that you will wait until He comes.

Don't look back!

Keep the hope alive.

Prayer

Lord, I am sure Your Word does not fail. Help me to wait on You. Help me to keep my hope alive while I wait for the fulfilment of Your promises. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Reflection

Guard your hope by guarding your heart.
