PRAYING IN THE WILL OF GOD

Praying in the will of God through the help of the Holy Spirit

Text: Romans 8:26–27 (AMP)

26. So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.

27. And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God's will.

In the beginning, it was God who initiated prayer with man, and it was first about giving him instructions on how to care for the garden, and later God communicated with him about a help-meet.

So, prayer is all about God's will, and as we studied yesterday, if anyone is going to pray and God will hear, it has to be a prayer that aligns with His will.

So, understanding how to pray in God's will becomes sacrosanct for any child of God that intends to make his prayer life worthwhile.

Every moment spent before God must be worth it, not just that you have a communication, but also assurance that any petition you submit will receive attention because it's simply God's will.

UNDERSTANDING GOD'S WILL IN PRAYER

It is possible to know the will of God for our lives, but also, we know in part; however, the Holy Spirit understands our spirit and can also search the mind of God for us.

So the Holy Spirit has the full understanding of God's will for us at any given time.

The scriptures above dug deep into this matter.

One of our weaknesses is that we really do have limitations in having a grasp of God's will. When we do, we do not know how to present it to God; however, the Holy Spirit, who understands us and also searches the heart of God, can intercede for us in a way that we can't do.

PRAYING IN GOD'S WILL THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT

Praying in God's will is first having an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit.

If there's any companion that you can have, it's the Holy Spirit. We must build our relationship with Him, so that He can help us to pray.

We can learn from Him how to rely on the Spirit for everything. When this happens, He (Holy Spirit) walks us to praying God's will.

PRAYING IN TONGUES

Secondly, praying in tongues.

Praying in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit, and when we pray in tongues, personally, we do not know what we are saying, but there's a trust that God can hear us.

It's the highest level of trust in God; it's a way of trusting the Holy Spirit all the way.

When we do this, we have allowed the Holy Spirit to give us utterances that align perfectly with the will of God.

You can't pray amiss when the Holy Spirit prays for you.

Jude 1:20 says:

"But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost."

Beloved, no matter how perfectly you put your words together, when the Holy Spirit doesn't help you, you still don't know what to pray for and how you ought to pray.

Trust the Holy Spirit to bear you through your communication with the Father.

So that when you pray even in understanding, it will be a product of the help of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER

Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Please help me to trust Him and build an intimate relationship with Him in Jesus' Name.

REFLECTION

Prayer is not about emotions; it's about praying God's will. You can be emotional and pray amiss.
