FRIENDSHIP: BUILDING GODLY AND HEALTHY FRIENDSHIPS 3

Text: Proverbs 27:5–6

5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Let's continue in the discussion of friendship because it seems God would want us to understand the concept of friendship so that we can utilise this great opportunity very well.

Friends are honest partners, and that's the reason we must choose our friends and not let them choose us (that is, be intentional about your choice of friends).

Friendship is an accountability relationship. It is meant to be an open relationship, where everyone involved is open to being corrected.

TRUE FRIENDSHIP ALLOWS CORRECTION

When true friends wound you, as our text today says, it is a faithful act.

When true friends say the truth, it might be painful and seriously hurtful, but it's the essence of friendship; it's meant to be a platform where we become open to correction, even if it hurts.

Also, there's no way friends won't offend each other; even if it's hurtful, it's still part of the package, and we must be ready to forgive.

It is better to be hurt by friends than for your enemy to console you; note the words: your friend must be the one you've chosen.

You should be accountable to them and vice versa.

FRIENDSHIP IS AN ACCOUNTABILITY RELATIONSHIP

Any friend who won't take your opinion or who does not regard your advice might not believe in your judgment, and you should start looking ahead.

Friendship is meant to be an accountability relationship.

REFLECTION

Proverbs 27:6: Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

PRAYER

Father, keep me away from enemies like friends in the name of Jesus.
