FRIENDSHIP: BUILDING GODLY AND HEALTHY FRIENDSHIPS 2

True friendship, friendship with Jesus and being a dependable friend

Text: Luke 11:5–8

[5] And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

[6] For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

[7] And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

[8] I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

We started looking at the subject of friendship a day ago, and I got the nudge to dig a bit deeper on this matter.

Someone always says to me, "What are friends for, if not for inconveniences?" Each time the person says this, we only laugh about it and make a joke out of it.

But in friendship, true friends will go to any lengths for each other and ensure that all is well with the other person.

What Are Friends For?

Jesus told a story about 2 friends in the text above.

One friend arrived late, and the other friend went to another friend's house to ensure the other friend ate. Jesus said that, though it was very inconvenient, the friend would still do it because he came to ask.

The cord of friendship is normally built as an anchor and confidant.

An anchor is meant to bear pressure, inconveniences, and storms and to keep balance. That's exactly what friendship is all about.

Your friends should be able to succour you.

Choosing Your Friends Carefully

The reason you should pick your friends carefully is so that you can tolerate them at any time they approach you; you are ready to be an anchor and confidant, and that is the reason marrying your friend is important or making whom you marry your friend.

Do you also see the reason Jesus calls us His friends?

It's because He's presented Himself as an anchor and confidant; however, He's expecting that you will be that to Him for the expansion of His kingdom in your domain.

Are you JESUS' friend?

If yes, can He count on you?

Think about it!

REFLECTION

Bear with those you've chosen as your friends.

PRAYER

Father, help me to be a friend indeed to You in the name of Jesus.
