POWER TO BE SON
Text: John 1:12
[12] But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
You know, most of the time I used to think that it's just a privilege to become a child of God, or at least confessing Jesus as Lord and Saviour and then boom, you become the child of God.
Well, while the two assumptions above are not just mere assumptions but also the truth about being a child of God, however, it seems becoming God's child is deeper than that.
To become a child of God demands some kind of deep workings to be able to become.
THE POWER TO BECOME A CHILD OF GOD
When John explained that those that become the sons of God must first believe in Him, and these people are given the power to become the sons of God.
To become the child of God, there's a need for a power to make you become.
In other words, there's an ability released into you that makes you a child of God.
So when Paul wrote in Ephesians 1:18–19:
[18] The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
[19] And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.
What Paul was pointing at was to open them up to the reality of their source and then work in the same reality.
You're not just a child of God because you gave your life to Christ. When you gave your life to Christ, there's a power (ability) that was abundantly released upon you to be able to live a God's child.
You're a child of God through the power that raised Christ from the dead.
WALKING IN THE REALITY OF GOD'S POWER
This means that the power that makes you God's child is not something that should remain as an idea. There is a reality that comes with becoming a child of God, and that reality must be walked in.
You have been given the power to become.
Walk in the reality of who you are.
REFLECTION
If there's a power that made you, that same power works in you.
PRAYER
Father, help me to walk in the reality of your power that made me your child, in Jesus' Name.
