DON'T BE DISTRACTED

Text: 1 Samuel 1:12–18

12 And it happened, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli watched her mouth.

13 Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.

14 So Eli said to her, "How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!"

15 But Hannah answered and said, "No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

16 Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now."

17 Then Eli answered and said, "Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him."

18 And she said, "Let your maidservant find favour in your sight." So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.

DISTRACTION IS ONE OF THE DEVIL'S WEAPONS

Distraction is one of the devil's weapons against the children of God. He knows that once a child of God is committed to their focus, there's nothing that will be impossible for them. And he will suggest or instigate a distraction that will dilute the fellow's commitment or divert his focus.

And I've seen this consistently in the acts of the devil.

Remember how Peter was distracted while walking on the water and he began to sink? That's exactly how the devil distracts.

Hannah Was Distracted, But She Stayed Focused

One of his distraction tactics that would mostly affect men is the kind that happened to Hannah in our scripture tonight.

While she was praying, originally, the priest was meant to give her a chance and not castigate her like that; she was accused wrongly and embarrassed.

How can Eli say she was drunk at the altar?

It was embarrassing and irritating, but instead of Hannah taking offence, observe what she did; she calmly explained herself to the priest, and she got an answer to her petition.

It seems she didn't even care what was thrown at her; she was focused.

She ignored whatever distractions were on her way and focused on God, who can turn around her situations.

DON'T ALLOW DISTRACTIONS TO DIVERT YOUR FAITH

Sometimes, we are distracted by those we highly regard, not because they have a wrong motive, but because they just seem not to understand what we are saying; sometimes it's doubt that comes to distract our faith.

In another case, it could be the present realities, our past or timing.

Whatever it is, ensure that your focus is fixed on Christ.

To do this, you must first focus on what God is saying, and you must trust God all the way.

Look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

Beloved, don't allow distractions to take your eyes away from God.

REFLECTION

Be sensitive to the devices of the devil.

PRAYER

Father, every distraction on my path now or in the future, be removed now in Jesus' Name.
