Help Me, Lord: Why Every Believer Needs God's Help
Text: Psalm 12:1 (KJV)
1 Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.

Help Me, Lord
With the little time I have spent on this planet, I have seen faithful men fail because, somehow, they did not receive the help they needed. I have seen godly men suffer because, in one way or another, they were ignorant of the help God had already made available to them. I have seen people with great destinies struggle to fulfil them, and I have seen men of great potential die before entering their season of manifestation.
One question has often occupied my mind:
What could be responsible for those who, by every human standard, should be at the forefront of God's help?
As I read today's Scripture, I was deeply moved by the Psalmist's simple yet powerful prayer:
"Help, LORD..."
Why would a man like David pray such a prayer?
The answer is found in the second part of the verse:
"...for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men."
David had seen something that many people ignore. He had seen godly men perish and faithful men fail. He understood that without God's help, no man, regardless of his spiritual strength, could stand for long.
That realization moved him to cry out, "Help, LORD."
Peter: A Man Sustained by God's Help
The story of Peter in Luke 22:31–32 gives us a practical example of what God's help looks like.
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
This passage has always spoken deeply to me.
Jesus knew what was ahead. Peter was going to face fierce spiritual opposition. The difference was not that Peter was stronger than every other disciple, but that the Lord intervened on his behalf.
You may compare Peter's story with that of Judas. One eventually returned and became a pillar in the early Church; the other never recovered from his downfall. Peter's preservation was not because he was perfect, but because the Lord helped him.
That help sustained Peter until he fulfilled God's purpose for his life.
You Cannot Do Without God's Help
Beloved, no matter how strong, intelligent, hardworking, spiritual, faithful, or godly you think you are, without God's help you can fail, fall, or even perish.
Many people who believe they can survive without depending on God eventually discover the limits of their own strength.
The prayer of the Psalmist should therefore become our daily prayer:
"Help, LORD."
It is a short prayer, but it carries the power to preserve a destiny.
This month, may God's help locate you. May He strengthen you where you are weak, sustain you where you are weary, and preserve you from every plan of the enemy, in Jesus' name.
Prayer
Lord, I have nothing else to ask of You today. Please help me. If You do not help me, I will fail. Sustain me by Your grace, preserve my faith, and let Your help carry me into the fulfilment of Your purpose for my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
