Accessing God's Help: The Key to Enjoying God's Provided Help (Part 1)

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Accessing God's Help
Since the beginning of this month, we have been discussing God's help and what it means to be helped by God. It is also important to know how to access this help, because it has already been provided.
The Bible says in 2 Peter 1:3:
"According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue."
Notice the phrase "hath given unto us." This tells us that many of the things we ask God for have already been made available through Christ. The challenge is often not whether God has provided them, but whether we know how to access what He has given.
Knowing that God desires to help a person is one thing; knowing how to access that help is another entirely. I have seen many of God's children struggle with things that should not have become problems simply because they could not access what had already been given to them.
Before accessing God's help, we must first understand the nature of the help that has been provided and why it was provided.
The Scripture this morning tells us that our High Priest is not One who cannot be touched by our weaknesses and struggles, because He also went through them. He was tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. Therefore, the help He has made available for us is not just any kind of help—it is the exact help we need, because He has been in our shoes and understands exactly what we are feeling.
Accessing God's help must first begin with this understanding: Jesus was tempted in every way. He experienced hunger. He was angered. He was cheated of what rightfully belonged to Him. He was betrayed. He was rejected by His own people. He suffered hardship. He endured pain. He was crucified and went through many of the struggles we face today, yet through it all, He found help.
When you begin to see Jesus in this light, your understanding changes. You realise that you are not serving a God who is disconnected from your struggles. Rather, you are serving One who has walked the path before you and understands exactly how you feel.
This understanding should strengthen your confidence in God. If Jesus understands your weaknesses, your pains, and your struggles, then you can trust Him completely to provide the exact help you need.
God's help is readily available. Trust Him because He understands you.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for understanding my feelings and my struggles. I rest in You and trust You to help me. I walk in Your help henceforth, in Jesus' name. Amen.
REFLECTION
Just trust God, wait patiently, and you shall see His help.
