Text: Mark 10:28-30
28 - Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
29 - And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
30 - But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
For every enterprise anyone would want to venture into, there are always some questions that he would want to answer, and at the top of those questions might probably be "what is in this for me", what am I going to gain from doing all these. It is important to understand the contents of what I'm putting myself into and the gains, so that I can show commitment and be sacrificially dedicated.
It's important to note that persecution for the sake of Christ as a child of God is not a sign that God has forgotten you or lacks power or lacks the indwelling of the Holy Spirit; in fact, it is a promise and a gain.
Peter asked Jesus what their gains would be after leaving everything to follow him. In his response, Jesus said they would gain much more on earth; however, it would come with persecution. So to him, persecution is a gain. And it must be celebrated whenever we are being persecuted because it's actually a gain. Promise fulfilled!
Beloved, our call is to live for Christ and Christ alone, and that comes with persecution in many forms; it could be a denial of right, vilification, unjust treatment, assault, even death. These are not enough to separate us from the love of Christ; he has informed us before now that persecution is a prepared promise, and when it comes, we should take it as a gain. It shows that we are in the fellowship of his suffering.
