Text: Genesis 24: 1-7
1 - And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
2 - And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:
3 - And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
4 - But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
5 - And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?
6 - And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.
7 - The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
A good man can promise you to do everything you need in life, while he means it and he has started with his plan, because he's human, anything can happen to him, and his limitations would then be glaring, and then, along the line, he would give up. It's normal and natural because a man can start a process and fail to complete it. Today's devotional is not about what God can do alone but about our response to the ability of God.
We need to know and declare exactly who God is, and that should form the foundation of belief. The point of reference in Abraham's life isn't that he didn't doubt; in fact, the Bible recorded it in Genesis 17:17
"Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?".
However, Abraham never doubted God once he spoke, and he can also beat his chest that God can do a thing based on his antecedents in his walk with God.
In the anchor scripture today, Abraham told his servant when he he brought the issue of "what if", that the same God that brought him out of his family and kindred, same God that brought him to an unknown land and blessed him there, same God that promised him that his seed would inherit the land, he again declared it that that same God will send his angels ahead of him to complete what he has started. This is the heart that God seeks. It was the same experience David shared when he was about to confront the giant, and it's not a surprise that God called them " his friend".
Beloved, can you reflect on God's promises over your life? Can you remember where he brought you from? Can you remember the promises he made to you and the multitude that he has brought to pass? If you're not important in his plan, he wouldn't have brought you this far. If he didn't want to help you, he wouldn't have taken you on this long journey. He can't abandon you now, if he has started it, he's too faithful to fail now.
This you must believe and proclaim; you must stand on this even in the face of any challenges. It might be tough and depressing, but if you can just remember that he wouldn't break your heart here, he doesn't use and dump, you will take solace in this and make your declaration firm that God will bring to pass every word he has said.
