Topic: ARE YOU A CHILD? 2
Text: Mark 10:13-16
13 - And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.
14 - But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
15 - Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
16 - And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
If there's a prayer every child of God must pray is that prayer of God making our hearts like that of a child. For Jesus to have set them up as a yardstick for how every child of God must accept and see the issue of the kingdom, it means we must mirror ourselves and pray that our hearts yield to these demands of the kingdom.
While we started this matter yesterday, we raised three major questions, we dealt with one yesterday and we'll look at the others today. The nature of the heart of a child is very critical to what God expects from us as we follow him.
How does a child receive words? We can also say what's the response of a child to words or instructions especially when it comes with a promise. When you promise a child anything, whether it's known to that child of your capacity to fulfil the promises or not, a child is going to believe and adhere to whatever the instructions are. As long as there is a promise ahead, a child will endure hardship and inconveniences just to see that he ends up with what has been promised.
Have you ever wondered why parents in the olden days used fables and fictional stories to instil morals and cultural values in children? It's because children receive words wholeheartedly, they don't have any iota of doubts in them. That's also their belief system, they trust easily and committedly.
Hebrews 12:2 says
"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."
This was the heart of Jesus, also Philippians 2: 5 and 8 says
5. "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
8. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
This emphasises the heart Jesus had, he was obedient even to death, and he did this while looking at the glory set ahead of him.
Let this same heart be in you. Trust God to a fault, receive God's word with all you have. When you receive God's word like a child would, you will obey him, and you will struggle to doubt God. Can you yield to the demands of the kingdom?
