Text: Mark 10:13-16
13 - And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.
14 - But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
15 - Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
16 - And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
Throughout the earthly ministry of Jesus, all his statements are audacious and made with authority and rightfully so, he's the son of God and so every word spoken by Christ must be believed. Still, those words must be known and understood to have clarity and be able to handle the word.
One of these statements is from our Bible reading today: he told his disciples that Children should come to him and should not be forbidden to come to him, because such is the kingdom of God. Also, whoever would not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will not enter therein. This statement must be taken just exactly as it is. The kingdom of God is for people whose hearts and lives are like a child's and who must also receive God's word like a child would receive any word.
The questions are these: what type of heart does a child have? How does a child receive word? What's the belief system of a child?
Let's take it one after the other, considering the kind of heart a child has, when you check through the heart of an average child, you'd see purity. So pure that even when they are doing the wrong thing, and it seems intentional, when you reproof them, they don't run away from you, instead, while crying they will still run towards you. It means the intent of their heart isn't willingly evil. A child's heart does not keep any wrong, forgiveness to them seems natural, while they fight so much, but the more their fights, the more their forgiving spirit. Their heart is flexible and teachable. They are ready to learn and also ready to make amendments whenever corrected.
Do you also notice that they love helping out too? While trying to do anything, they are willing to help out, even when you stop them, they still want to be there, helping out, their hearts are wide and large yet can't keep anything impure.
Now, Jesus said, such is the kingdom of God. Is your heart pure? Do you run away from God when he corrects you or do you run towards Him? Is your heat teachable and flexible? This is the kind of heart that God desires, not holding on to anything but God.
