TOPIC:
PRIDE IN THE LORD
TEXT:
Jer.9.23 Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise and skillful person glory and boast in his wisdom and skill; let not the mighty and powerful person glory and boast in his strength and power; let not the person who is rich [in physical gratification and earthly wealth] glory and boast in his [temporal satisfactions and earthly] riches; (AMP)
Jer.9.24 But let him who glories glory in this: that he understands and knows Me [personally and practically, directly discerning and recognizing My character], that I am the Lord, Who practices loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says the Lord. (AMP)
IT is normal to an average man to try and reflect in his mind the exploit he has done and most times he traces his successes to how much he has contributed to them. On the contrary, an average man will also look for whom to blame in case he fails in tasks. It is very hard for a mind that is yet to encounter the Lord to separate his achievement from his preparation, energy and skills. And even the mind with God's knowledge too might find it hard to remove his skills and hard work from his successes. It is good to acknowledge one's strength in works, however having the knowledge of God supercede all these!
GOD through prophet Jeremiah advices that the rich should not boast in their wealth, the intelligent in their brain, the strong in the strength but let him that boast that he knows God! The best a man can get from life is the assurance of having an encounter with Jehovah! An encounter with Jehovah gives meaning to life, peace to the heart, rest to the mind, and it worth every pride! The purpose of God for our lives is that the only thing that would have meaning to us as his children is how much of God we have come to know, how deep of God we have come to dig.
How much of God do you have? Those material things are mirage, they will fade away with time and even if they don't fade away, you will leave them someday. But you see, the part of God you have will never fade, it sticks to you forever, it stays with you here on earth and you have a more meaningful revelation after here. Knowing God brings satisfaction, hope, joy and peace, it is the only success that could afford such things. Do you know God? Yes? Then boast only in that!
THINK TANK:
What do you know of God?
PRAYER:
FATHER, THANK YOU FOR OPENING YOURSELF TO ME, HELP ME TO ALWAYS SEEK YOU UNTIL I SEE YOU IN GLORY IN JESUS NAME!
