Topic: WHY SLEEP NOW?
Text:1 Kings 3: 16-22
16 - Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
17 - And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
18 - And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
19 - And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
20 - And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21 - And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.
22 - And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.
One of the blessings a man can receive from God is sleep; in fact, the Scripture says he gives his beloved sound sleep. However, it is most dangerous to sleep when you ought to be awake. Imagine a soldier on the battlefield who decided to take a nap only to be tapped by his enemies; such a soldier is gone because he slept at the wrong time.
It is dangerous to sleep when there are cries of destiny around you. There's a time for everything, a time to sleep and a time to be awake, but when a man sleeps during an active season, he risks not just his destiny but others that are tied to his.
The scripture above is one that always baffles me each time I read. Both women slept and the sleep was so deep that they both lost their consciousness and sensitivity, because how can one sleeps to the extent of laying on your child until he dies, that's is careless sleep, but that's not the highest of it, the other woman didn't wake up and was also dead to the cry, and all of the other woman until she switched her baby with hers. It was when she woke up in the morning that she realised it wasn't her child. Thank God, she woke up!
You can't afford to sleep now; you can't afford to lie on your destiny and get it snuffed out; you can't afford to sleep and allow your destiny to be swapped; it's too dangerous to sleep now. You might wonder how a man can sleep in this context. When a man sleeps, he loses consciousness of his environment; he loses sensitivity, and he's carefree about what to do and how to do it. You can gauge yourself with these: are you alert, are you watching, are you praying? It's not time to sleep; this is a time to work.
Wake up!
