TOPIC: THE ASSURANCE OF VICTORY
TEXT: 1 John 5:1-5
1 - Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
2 - By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3 - For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4 - For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 - Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
A man who is full of fear dies many times before his death; he won't die because death has come, but he would have died even before know what would kill him. And the sponsor of fear is doubt or ignorance. When a man doesn't believe what has been said to him because it is too simple to be real, or he lacks the knowledge of what has been given to him. The reality, however, is that many Christians live a life as if to say Christ has not died, a life that doesn't demonstrate the power in the death and the resurrection of Christ.
Christ is not going to give us victory; he has already given us the victory. He's not just delivering it; he has delivered it to us. The scriptures above talked about the assurance of our victory, because we have believed in Christ, we have been born of God, and whosoever is born of God has overcome the world; it is a victory, and it was delivered by Christ through his death and resurrection. The assurance of our victory is enforced, established and guaranteed in our faith.
The question is: what is your assurance of victory? When we pray, we're not meant to pray that God gives us victory; we are praying to enforce, establish and call forth the victory that is already delivered and done. This can be hard and impossible when you don't even believe that there's no other sacrifice except the one Christ has done, or it's harder when you don't even know this truth.
Beloved, take over your territory; your victory is not negotiable; it is certain and assured. Enforce it; remind everyone who cares to know, including your enemy (the devil), about the victory at Golgotha and the empty tomb; remind him where you're seated now; take charge of your inheritance in Christ.
